We are pleased to announce that Helen Firth has completed her Training Contract and today qualifies as a Solicitor within the Firm.
Helen Firth joined John Fowlers in September 2014 after completing her Law degree at The University of York and subsequently completing her LPC at The University of Law. Helen’s training contract comprised of seats working within our Conveyancing department, Wills and Probate departments and Court of Protection.
Helen has been heavily involved in Court of Protection matters as a significant part of her training. In 2015 Helen was involved in an emergency High Court application in the protection of a young vulnerable adult, whilst assisting our Christopher Andrews, who acted as Litigation Friend in this matter. Being at the forefront of such a critical matter, Helen gained extensive knowledge and experience in this field, which has been a real asset not only in relation to her training contract as a whole, but in particular developing her expertise in Court of Protection matters.
Helen will qualify into our Private Client Department where she will deal with matters such as Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Probate. She looks to specialise in Court of Protection and capacity matters.
Helen is currently involved in a significant matter whereby an application has been made in the High Court following extensive negotiations to achieve an Order that truly represents the best outcome for the well being of the Patient, the family and the relevant care professionals. Helen’s diligent and continued involvement in this matter has been fundamental to the progress of this application and the clients commented ‘how they could not have gone through this without Helen being there every step of the way’.
These experiences have provided Helen with the unique ability to approach and advise clients in these circumstances, and to look at the bigger picture at hand.
Helen has also spent a lot of time supporting local and national charities throughout her work, and has become a Dementia Friend which she feels has enabled her to not only assist the clients but their families too.
Head of the Private Client Department and Partner here at the firm, Christopher Andrews comments:
“It has been a pleasure working with Helen these past two years and watching her grow in both confidence and ability in that time. She is a very capable and thoughtful member of the team and is able to empathise with clients and their needs. It is not always easy to deal with some cases that we see in front of us, but Helen has shown a great ability to be not only pro active in such matters but also to be able to think ahead as to what may be needed depending on initial outcomes, which stands her in an excellent position for her future career in her chosen field. She is kindhearted and always the first to give a helping hand when needed which is always very much appreciated by both colleagues and clients.”
Helen commented on her new role:
“I am very much looking forward to my new role as a Solicitor in the Private Client Department. To have the opportunity to deal with Court of Protection matters has provided me with experiences I believe to be invaluable. To be able to continue my career progression in this field here at John Fowlers is something I am most looking forward to.”
Helen supports the community wherever she can and often attends The University of Essex Law School to assist students in their Pro-Bono Law Clinic. Helen also set up and runs a Law Clinic for Military families. Having a husband in the Armed Forces, Helen can empathise with the needs of her client’s from the Military which enables her to reassure them and support them throughout their matter whatever it may be. With the support of our Senior Partner Kim Kennedy and Marketing Executive Michael Kennedy, John Fowlers have recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant to support Military Personnel, Veterans and their families.
Helen has received a lot of positive feedback from both clients and other professionals. A client recently commented:
“We would like to say a huge thank you for all your support and expertise during this matter. You have simply been wonderful and we will be recommending you to anyone who needs a solicitor!”
